Context

Bangladesh has made significant strides in improving access to education, yet daunting challenges persist, particularly for children in vulnerable situations. Students in rural and low-income communities often find themselves on the wrong side of a stark educational divide. They frequently attend schools characterized by overcrowded classrooms, a shortage of qualified teachers, and inadequate facilities, including poor sanitation and a lack of safe, conducive learning spaces. Furthermore, a chronic scarcity of essential learning materials, from textbooks for every child to basic science equipment, severely hampers the quality of education they receive.

The cycle of poverty creates further barriers, forcing many children to drop out of school to support their families or leading to early marriages, particularly for girls. Compounding these existing vulnerabilities, Bangladesh is acutely susceptible to climate-related disruptions. Increasingly frequent and intense floods, cyclones, and heatwaves lead to prolonged school closures, damage vital infrastructure, and displace families, further interrupting children's education and well-being. These combined factors contribute to lower learning outcomes, higher dropout rates, and ultimately limit the potential of a generation. BacharLorai's Zero-Gap Fund is designed to target these specific, deep-rooted disparities, providing focused support where it's most critically needed to help ensure more children can access and benefit from quality learning opportunities.
